It's All About Acceptance
A Humanistic Approach to Group Play & Creative Therapy
with Children and Pre-adolescents
Dates: 18 th – 20 th June
08
Cost €550
This workshop is designed
to assist those who work with children in obtaining an understanding
of the therapeutic use of group work with children 6-12
years of age . Utilizing a variety of experiential activities,
along with didactic material, workshop participants will be introduced
to the use of a humanistic approach to group play/activity therapy
for use in school and community settings. Group play/activity therapy
is an effective intervention especially for children whose life
experiences have interrupted their social development and ability
to connect with peers.
A developmental rationale
for group work with latency-age and pre-adolescent children will
be provided, along with specific strategies for each age group.
An overview of outcome data from Dr. Bratton's research will be
presented in support of this approach. Participants will gain the
foundation necessary for the skillful selection of group members
so as to enhance the therapeutic process. Variations of the model
for children who require additional individual support will also
be addressed. Participants will be introduced to the unique
differences in group play therapy and group
activity therapy and the respective role of the therapist
through video segments, case material and role play .
Developmentally-responsive structured and unstructured group play/activities,
including the use of expressive arts with older children, will be
presented. Several activities presented can be adapted for work
